Classes - Introduction to Spiritual Practices

Soul Feast:
An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life
An eight-week book study

Led by Rev. Vince McGlothin-Eller

Using the revised printing of the book, Soul Feast by Marjorie J. Thompson, we will be introduced to a variety of spiritual practices common throughout the history of the church and ways in which we can incorporate those practices into our modern lives. As we travel together through the text, we will also take opportunities to put these methods into practice.

The book includes chapters on spiritual reading, various approaches to prayer, worship, sabbath, fasting, self-examination and confession, spiritual direction, and hospitality as spiritual practice. The text then ends with a chapter on the development of a rule of life, a way of intentionally putting into practice in your day-to-day life those practices that help you connect to the divine.

Each week of the study, we will read 1-2 chapters before we gather together to discuss what we learned and to have some intentional time to experience some of what we have learned.

The book is available in standard paperback, enlarged print, and electronic versions and can be purchased from your preferred book retailer.. (Please note that only the most recent revision, released in 2015, includes all of the chapters; earlier editions are still available but exclude certain chapters.)
